Join us for a morning Weed Wrangle as we remove the invasive Sand Pine from Townsend Wildlife Management Area. This area comprises important habitat for the gopher tortoise and indigo snakes and is actively undergoing longterm restoration towards a Longleaf Pine Scrub Oak sand hill community. We will be removing seedling Sand pine which are crowding out the native species using loppers, machetes, hatchets, and handpulling. We have many tools and gloves available but if you have your own feel free to bring.
We will meet near the Parkers Gas Station at exit 49 off I-95. Then from there caravan to the work location which is about 20 minutes north west on Hwy 251. If you have questions feel free to e-mail Eamonn at eamonn.leonard@dnr.ga.gov.
