Washington Conservation Corps: Creating future leaders through community involvement and mentorship

March 1, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Free

10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time

The Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) is an AmeriCorps program that creates future leaders through community involvement and mentorship. WCC has more than 350 members and experienced staff statewide who restore critical habitat, prevent and control invasive species, build trails, and respond to local and national disasters.

Through AmeriCorps, the WCC program provides hands-on experience, field skills, and training opportunities to young adults between 18 and 25 and military veterans. We work in partnership with nonprofit and governmental organizations that apply for WCC crews or individual placement members to complete projects.

Join this webinar to learn more about the WCC and their important contributions to protecting Washington’s economy and environment with a lens of preventing and controlling invasive species.

Speaker: Peter Nevin

Peter Nevin is a Logistics Coordinator with the Washington Conservation Corps program at Washington State Department of Ecology’s headquarters in Lacey. Prior to his current position, he previously supervised a WCC crew for over 11 years, implementing salmon habitat restoration projects for King County’s Department of Natural Resources and Parks.

Peter is originally from Virginia where he attended the College of William and Mary, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a focus on Environmental Studies. He completed the University of Washington’s certificate program in Wetland Science and Management in 2007, received the Washington State University Extension certificate in Integrated Pest Management in 2015, and is now in his 4th renewal cycle for his Washington State Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator’s license.

Peter lives on 5 acres of woods in northeast Olympia and enjoys spending time outdoors in a variety different ways, rooting for the Mariners, and hanging out with his two awesome kids, Stewart (8) and Quincy (almost 5).
