Weed Wrangle – Cat claw removal – Work day

February 28, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for a Weed Wrangle to remove the invasive Catclaw vine on Butler Island at the Altamaha Waterfowl Management Area off Hwy17 south of Darien. This showy flowering vine has cat like tendrils that grab. The growth form and flowers are similar to the native crossvine. This plant could also be confused with the native yellow Carolina Jessamine but Catclaw vine blooms later in the season. We will be gently pulling up the tubers that form just under the surface. We have buckets and garden gloves donated by WeedWrangle but feel free to bring your own. Bring a small garden trowel. Knee pads are a good idea. We will have a water cooler so bring a water bottle and any snacks you might need. Long pants, long sleeve shirts, sun and bug protection and sturdy shoes recommended. Everyone will wear a mask and social distance.

If you want to sign up or have questions feel free to e-mail Eamonn at eamonn.leonard@dnr.ga.gov
